nbnTM<\/sup> are using a mix of technologies to deliver nbnTM<\/sup> network to homes across Australia. The technologies used differ from area to area, depending on the existing infrastructure. These technologies include the following:<\/p>\n

Fibre-To-The-Premises (FTTP)<\/strong> reaches customers via fibre-optic cables laid either in the ground or through overhead lines.<\/p>\n

Fixed Wireless<\/strong> sends signals from the antenna fitted to the roof of your customer\u2019s house to a wireless base station, which means a better Internet experience for customers located in rural and regional Australia.<\/p>\n

Fibre-To-The-Node (FTTN)<\/strong> reaches customers via fibre running to the neighbourhood node\/pillar and from there, using existing copper network to connect the premises.<\/p>\n

Fibre-To-The-Basement (FTTB)<\/strong> reaches customers via fibre running to the basement in a Multi Dwelling Unit (MDU)\/apartment complex and from there using existing copper network to connect the premises.<\/p>\n

Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC)<\/strong> delivered using a combination of fibre and coaxial cable, which is a network technology, developed by the cable TV industry.<\/p>\n

Satellite<\/strong>\u00a0 (ACN will not be offering this product) is delivered via a satellite service to a dish on the roof.<\/p>\n

Useful facts:<\/p>\n

  1. nbnTM<\/sup> network technologies will never overlap. This means you don\u2019t have to worry about picking a technology. All you have to do is pick an ACN nbnTM<\/sup> plan.<\/li>\n
  2. nbnTM<\/sup> is transitioning the rollout to a faster, more cost-effective approach by using existing infrastructure and a mix of technologies such as FTTN, FTTB and HFC.<\/li>\n
  3. Rather than building out another broadband network over the top of these existing technologies (copper and cable), acquiring and upgrading the networks is a faster and inexpensive solution.<\/li>\n
  4. FTTN, FTTB and HFC are currently in trial phase. They will be made available to the public towards the end of 2015 to mid-2016.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
